I started my career as a busboy at Wendy's, quickly learning how to cook and earned my way up to being a shift lead. I have since worked in every aspect of Food service from busboy, back of the house and front of the house and moving into supervisory roles. My true career started in the U.S. Marine Corps where I trained to be baker, and then later learned how to cook in a professional kitchen. After leaving the Marines I Baked for Safeway, earning my Journeyman Certification in just 3 years, and continuing to bake for Costco. My food service Career took a slight detour while I was recruited to sell cars for a few years. I had some amazing training in customer service and learned how to truly learn to read people. Returning to food service, I started down my management career path, Working at Fort Logan Mental Health where I learn many valuable skills related to food safety, dysphagia, allergies and mechanically altered foods and valuable information related to conditions like diabetes. This is where I first learned I have a knack for problem solving, dispute resolution and team building, taking a dysfunctional kitchen and turning it into a highly functioning well-oiled team environment. My first management position was attributed directly to my experience at Fort Logan, it was a "fixer upper" kitchen that needed a lot of attention and rebuilding. With my teaching, this kitchen has gone on to produce multiple managers being trained at this facility and moving on to great careers. This was also my first kitchen remodel. Since that first kitchen, I have gone on to rebuild several kitchens, being recruited by my first Executive Director a couple of times and then moving on after developing my own skills and confidence in what I do. I have opened multiple kitchen locations from Start up. Most notably is the A.R.T.S. consolidated Kitchen at Fort Logan which now functions and a teaching kitchen where the residents learn life skills from certified Chef's and develop the skills to have careers in food service and get ServSafe Certified in the process. I Opened the kitchen at Boondocks Food and Fun in Parker, Co, and my current position with Reunion Rehabilitation where my work was noted by Corporate and acknowledged as best practice in the way my kitchen is set up, the documentation and procedures I use from years of experience. With that interaction, I am called on to help and give advice to several other Chef's in their start up kitchens as more hospitals are being built around the Country by Nobis and Reunion.
