Hello! My name is Caleb Dively and I am currently enrolled at Eastern Gateway Community College for my Paralegal certification, and expected to be finished in May 2023. Before this certification, I graduated in December 2015 from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania with my Bachelor’s degree in Human Communication Studies, as well as a minor in Communication/Journalism.Since graduating from Shippensburg, I have been working as an Ophthalmic technician at Pennsylvania Retina Specialists (June 2017-July 2019) and Eyes of York (August 2019-present). With my pursuit of the Paralegal Certification through Eastern Gateway Community College, I am looking to use my professional communication skills in this new and very personally interesting career. The legal/Paralegal field became an interest of mine during the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown in 2020 upon watching and reading about the various lawsuits about the shutdowns and the various police brutality issues that have occurred during/since the lockdown. One of the biggest compliments I have consistently received throughout my professional life, whether it be from supervisors or the patients that I work with in my current field, is my ability to connect with anyone who I come across. Whether it’s helping to train new staff with something that can be hard to understand or calming a patient down when the possibility of an eye surgery is right in front of them, my communication skills have provided me with a great skill in connecting with people of all walks of life. It has also helped greatly when dealing with difficult or angry clients/patients, in that I can reassure them or get them to calm down so we can solve the issue together and make sure they get everything they need.On top of my communication skills, I have a wide range of skills in the office setting such as proficiency in all of Microsoft Office, customer service, and leadership. I am also interested in administrative opportunities. Overall, I have a huge desire to help those in need in any capacity that I can!
