I come from a multiracial heritage, with my mother’s people who are from the Eastern Kuku Yalanji tribe situation in the Daintree rainforest. My father who is of English and German decent.Growing up in Mossman I grew up with the advantages of becaming rich in my Aboriginal laws, belief's, culture, hunting, gathering skills and spiritual connection to the land, sea, rivers and sky. When I visited my father in Brisbane I got to witness and take in the other side of my heritage and I believe this has made me who I am today.My career first began when I successfully became the first Indigenous student to complete a Diploma in Education in Australia while still attending High school.I then went on to get a Cert 3 in Arboriculture, working and living with my team we became the fastest Tree Loppers around the Powerlines in Australia. While working in this highly risky and dangerous job I had the chance to explore Australia and the remote Indigenous community's.Not being able to see my family and practice my culture, I then moved on and completed my trade as a Fitter And Turner in my local sugar mill. I then finished at the sugar mill and moved my family up to Weipa to work in the mines for three years.After Weipa I had moved my family back to Mossman. I was approached by the Principal at Mossman State High School to work as a Youth Worker to help the disengaged Indigenous students. After a bit of hard work and persistence I successfully had the students attending school. I had then set up a program (Junior Rangers) for the year 10, 11 and 12 students to complete a Certificate II in rural operations with the Local Indigenous Rangers. This would set them up for future employment when they left school. Moving my family to the Gold Coast I had realised that alot of the Indigenous people of Australia were unemployed and had a loss of culture. This was my drive to set up NIEAustralia (National Indigenous Enterprise Australia).NIEAustralia is a 100% Indigenous owned company with a deep cultural understanding of country and its people which enables us to work confidently in Indigenous communities.We endeavour to train and employ local community members to support community growth and sustainment. We aim to provide meaningful benefits, skill development, formal qualifications and other training opportunities to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Through this approach we will proudly make a significant contribution to Closing The Gap and to meeting Federal and State Government Indigenous employment and education targets.
