When I started at Streethay, I knew nothing about a yard, canal boats, the canal or how it works. From the time I left, I had extensive knowledge of how to run the yard, everything that went into a canal boat, knowledge of different parts of the canal, painting, prepping, servicing engines, general maintenance, piloting boats to a professional standard and quay management. It truly helped me to become more organised, to plan jobs and use time effectively. I met some amazing people and learned so much about myself.

During my time at the Hedgehog, I met some amazing people and learned some fantastic new skills. More so than other was working under constant pressure, working in a large team and communication. The Hedgehog also offered opportunity to work round different roles within the business. I was hired for the role of Barman but by the time that I had left I had worked on the floor as a waiter, pot wash, starters and pudding, night porter, food runner, social media leader, took part in all optional staff meetings (Good to Great) and received some fantastic feedback even through my lack of experience.

The Earl of Lichfield was a learning curve for me, having gone from a busy, more mainstream bar to a regulars pub which focused very much on its friendly community and knowing everyone, it really helped me to hone in my people skills, listening and talking effectively. .

I started at The George IV while I was 17 and began as a glass collector on the weekends and busy events. As soon as I turned 18, I began training behind the bar. After only a few months, I was in charge of the bar on certain shifts, training new staff and taking on all the responsibility I could. I also helped book and organise entertainment with our booking agent. My general duties were; serve behind the bar, stock rotation, appear presentable, upsell products, conduct myself in a friendly manor, general cleaning and tidying.
