Test Engineer Intern
I designed, manufactured, and operated test equipment to evaluate the performance of developmental parts. This included both the creation of the test plans and producing the test systems themselves. For example, I used a digital dial indicator, Arduino, 3D printing, and synchronous serial communication protocol to develop a test device that traced small deflections and exported the data and waveforms to Excel. Another test involved using a large pneumatic cylinder to apply loads to various incline motors. I utilized a microcontroller and relays to control the incline motor and pneumatic valves to control the pneumatic pressure. I also included a human machine interface to set and run various test recipes in order to help identify which incline motor to include in the next PVT. Other tests included developing button press machines, knob turners, and conducting vibration testing using National Instruments DACs, stepper motors, and LabVIEW. Additionally, I used Python with Pandas and Matplotlib to analyze data I collected from these tests.
Mechanical Engineering Intern
I worked as a mechanical engineering intern at Robert Bosch Tool Corporation and got great hands-on experience, designing, testing, and analyzing electro-mechanical products. I designed and conducted physical, mechanical, and electrical test to determine the state of over 60 returned tools. As a result, I reported major areas of weakness for the tool so that improvements could be made. I also designed and conducted a competitive assessment test to outline the parameters of next-generation tools. Additionally, I analyzed user data of tool usage determining average current draws on tools and matching current draws to physical usage of the tool (e.g. cutting, sanding, grinding).
Engineering Intern
Participated in exhibit design, modification, fabrication, and analysis for the Houston Museum of Natural Science's new Weiss Energy Hall. Daily task included stress and element analysis, prototyping, and exhibit production. Specifically, I worked on the calibration, installation, and refinement of a hydraulically powered robotic arm that is used as a part of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) used in offshore oil and gas industries. I performed stress analysis and designed support structures for seven large cantilever shaped cabinets that align with the parameters of strength to hold the required monitors, electronics, and additional weight that may be placed on them. I prototyped and assembled parts for the Eagle Ford Shale Experience Exhibit that involves taking visitors on a ride as if they are going down into an oil well. Began bill of materials for the initial projects that included hundreds of CAD files, drawings, meeting reports and more. I utilized AutoCad Fusion 360, Solidworks, TAZ 3D printers, and many shop tools in the production and modification of the exhibit parts and prototypes.
