As an Aerospace Engineer II, I worked on aerodynamic performance and analysis as well as wind tunnel testing of UAVs at Insitu. Aircraft Performance Analysis • Developed and improved internal software tools for aircraft aerodynamics & performance analysis based on both analytical and experimental methods. • Conducted aircraft performance analyses on UAVs in support of conceptual design and aircraft performance. • Partnered with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical and propulsion, to support aircraft design, certification efforts, and mishap investigations. • Designed and executed CFD test matrices to determine aircraft aerodynamics and performance. • Develop a set of CFD benchmark suites to improve Insitu’s CFD SOP and best practices and increase CFD efficiency. • Used tools such as XFOIL, XROTOR, and OpenVSP (VLM) to support aircraft performance analysis and aircraft design efforts.Flight Testing • Processed and reviewed flight, and flight test telemetry in support of mishap investigations, aircraft performance estimates, and model development • Helped develop and improve code for processing VTOL flight telemetry data and comparing against simulation results.Wind Tunnel Testing • Developed and executed a detailed wind tunnel test plan in support of aircraft development. • Carefully managed test plan timing and priorities to extract the most information possible within a fixed time window. • Worked as part of an agile, multidisciplinary team to develop new test methods for propeller performance analysis.

My work involved simulation of complex fatigue crack growth in residual stress fields using FEA suites and software packages like BEASY. Additionally, I worked on static and dynamic FEA involving simulation challenges such as plasticity, gross deformation, and contact. I was the lead developer for Hill Engineering's engineered residual stress software, ERS-Toolbox®, and served as Hill Engineering's software coordinator; working to develop and enforce internal coding and quality standards.Strength and Structural Analysis • Extensive use of finite element analysis (FEA) in support of structural, fatigue, and fracture analysis for engineering design and mechanical systems design efforts. • Designed and executed linear, nonlinear, static, model, analyses on aircraft primary structure in support of repair, sustainment, and modernization programs for the Navy, Air Force, and department of defense subcontractors. • Performed linear, nonlinear, static, and dynamic FEA for various customers in a consulting capacity to support design reviews and modifications. ◦ Interfaced regularly with customers to ensure customer satisfaction as the technical lead engineer • Developed a commercial software tool which estimates residual stress and interfaces with finite element analysis suites. ◦ Created and presented software training material both internally and to external customers. ◦ Presented software analysis results and comparisons at the 2017 AFGROW User’s ConferenceFatigue, Fracture, and Durability Analysis • Used NASGRO, BEASY, and FRANC3D to perform fatigue crack growth simulations in support of various clients and test programs. ◦ Helped develop and review analysis standard operating procedures for BEASY and developed internal tooling to improve analysis efficiency. • Conducted an extensive benchmark program for fatigue crack growth simulation software and presented the results at the 2016 AFGROW User’s Conference.
