I am a music creator and live performance artist and have been active in the Irish music industry for ten years, beginning my musical career in 2015 with Waterford funk band Backroad Smokers Club as bassist, guitarist and vocalist. I arranged a lot of the music in Backroad Smokers Club, and we would work on my personal musical compositions and adapt them into our live set, making for quite a musically diverse live experience. With Backroad Smokers Club, I played at many large Irish music festivals such as Electric Picnic in Laois and Spraoi and Imagine Arts Festival in Waterford, and a lot of independent festivals such as Battle For The Lake, a kitesurfing competition in Achill Island, and Rather Gather, an independent festival in Waterford. While in Backroad Smokers club I was also studying for my BA in music at SETU Waterford. Being in the band scene helped me to experiment with my soloist name Cal Pacino, playing acoustic guitar covers, original songs and rapping. I got to rap with Robert Glasper at a concert of his in Sugar Club, Dublin in 2017. I graduated in 2018 with my major in music composition and my minor in jazz guitar performance. Looking to expand my own musical identity as singer, rapper and jazz guitarist Cal Pacino, I departed from Backroad Smokers Club in early 2019. I released a slow jazz ballad I had recorded called The World Needs More People Like You in August 2019 and began my path as solo artist Cal Pacino. The following year I collaborated with Henhouse Music to create my debut album Sowing Seeds with renowned session band S.A.N.D. which would be released in 2022. During creation of the album with Henhouse Music, I independently released my first rap single Brilliant And Dangerous in 2021 to showcase my diverse musical ability. My debut album showcases a broad range of musical styles ranging from indie folk to conscious jazz hiphop. I and S.A.N.D played Cork City Jazz Festival in October 2021 and some other local Waterford shows, which served as a great warm up for our two headline shows in Waterford City the summer of 2022, one for the launch of the album's first single I've Been Away For A Little While, and one for the Sowing Seeds album launch. We also performed twice at Cork Jazz Festival in 2022. In early 2023, I and S.A.N.D had a Spring Tour of Ireland, performing in Limerick, Cork, Mullingar and Dublin. In 2023 I resumed production of my own music independently and began working on my newest collection of songs, collaborating with acclaimed producer Richard Power on my newest single INMYBAG4U, which is coming in 2024.
