As an Electrical Engineer and Project Manager, I work closely with clients and other engineering disciplines to create and maintain detailed documents describing the scope of projects, project schedules, and project budgets. I also work to train and supervise intern engineers and electrical designers to complete Electrical Power System Studies and design of electrical installations. This includes conducting electrical load analysis to verify that the existing electrical service and equipment can adequately support the installation of new equipment, creating drawings detailing the installation, developing system one-lines, specification of electrical equipment and protective devices and following National Electric Code (NEC) guidelines.

As an Intern Electrical Engineer, I worked under licensed Professional Engineers conducting power system studies in industrial and manufacturing facilities. This included gathering information about the physical installation (protective devices including relays, breakers and CTs, conductor information, equipment ratings) of the electrical power systems for conducting short circuit fault current studies, reporting under-rated equipment and specifying new replacement equipment, conducting overcurrent protective device coordination studies, creating recommendations to change settings to provide better coordination, working with electricians to implement recommendations. The Electrical Power System Studies also included checking the facilities electrical installation and verifying that the system has been installed per National Electric Code guidelines. The electrical systems were modelled in ETAP or SKM Powertools for Windows to conduct Arc Flash analysis. Equipment found to be of higher incident energy were analyzed to lower the indecent energy by modifying the system to reduce the fault current or reduce the fault clearing time. During this time I spent approximately 3 months working at a client’s facility supervising electrical construction, working with electricians to troubleshoot issues, assisting with and conducting safety meetings, reviewing electrical installations for accuracy and providing engineering support for design changes in the field.

As an electrical associate engineer for Dell Innovation Services I worked with the electrical systems team creating schematics and designing 3D wiring harnesses for generators and large engines. I also worked with a multidisciplinary team of engineers designing test stands for cliental. My work involved specifying electrical components for the test stand and assisting with the development of programming controls (NI LabVIEW), procedures and set points for test values. During this time I also spent time working on a client supplied, small scale prototype generator. This involved testing the generator on a test stand built at Dell Innovation Services, creating a procedure for testing the generator, compiling reports for the client and creating a design for a printed circuit to rectify the power from the generator to store the power in a battery and make it usable for charging small electronics.
