I was able to return to Torch Technologies for my second summer internship. I created various analytical spreadsheets and performed many routine accounting tasks that I also did last summer. My most notable project was my creation of metrics for various departments in order to potentially justify new hires. I was also tasked with creating a presentation for new hires. I believe this time around I was able to further develop my professionalism, public speaking skills, as well as my analytical procedures.

This job was a very large stepping stone into my career in accounting. I was able to get hands on experience with government contracting in many ways. I became familiar with Costpoint and learned how to manage charge codes and create vouchers for withholding taxes. I also conducted audits on travel, fixed assets, and miscellaneous expenses. One notable discovery includes my finding of duplicate payments to one vendor that resulted in a $34,000 refund to my employer. I also created multiple spreadsheets aimed at cutting various expenses and improving efficiency. This job was able to cultivate and reassure my passion and excitement for accounting.

I was able to find success and learn critical skills in how to navigate a time sensitive, fast paced environment. This job also taught me the value of customer satisfaction and how far it can go within a business. Even when faced with a hectic environment, it is of utmost importance to make the customer feel welcomed and valued.
