Sales Associate
CurrentMy job is a very split one. We are expected to be able to function and maintain every aspect of the store at once. Some of the day-to-day requirements are as such:We are taught how to clean out pet wash stations, thoroughly and efficiently disinfect and remove all hair and debris from each one. We are trained to keep it almost literally spotless, and we keep it maintained to that standard by checking on it constantly as we work throughout the store. We are taught to run the cash till, from ringing out customers, bagging items, processing returns, processing returns for the warehouse, keeping the floor and counters clean, through sweeping, dusting, repeated use of cleaning agents, etc.We monitor the floor at all times, as working in an environment frequented by pets, there are messes more often than not. We safely pick up or clean the area, then come back through with a disinfecting agent before wiping it down a final time.We frequently organize the store, from reorganizing and straightening the back warehouse, to constantly keeping the entire floor zoned and looking as if it's not been shopped at all.We are trained to know the ins and outs of every product we carry, from the risks or benefits of using them, to the nutritional values, what supplements or foods would be best for specific dogs, etc.An additional duty we have comes every Saturday, in the form of pet adoptions and a pet clinic. We have to maintain the area both use, making sure to clean up anything left by both the adoption agency or the veterinarians that come in.
