McHenry County Workforce Network helps job seekers train for and find new jobs and more rewarding careers faster and easier.Completed a six week paid internship at Novation Industries in McHenry, Illinois:Obtained a broad understanding of the processes associated with plastic injection molding. Spent time in several different departments acquiring critical skills associated with the manufacturing process.-Increased abilities in time management, prioritization, communication and planning via time spent in the warehouse and material handling departments.-While working in shipping and receiving learned how to schedule, prepare and send shipments of inventory on hand on a timely basis, as well as how to monitor and allocate incoming inventory.-Spent a day in the tool room acquiring knowledge of the different types of molds used at Novation Industries. Observed the disassembly, cleaning, repairing and reassembly of a tool. Learned the differences between hot runners and cold runners as well as the purpose of a gate, runner, sprue, mold insert and ejector pins. Gained a broader understanding of the inner workings of a mold and the importance of properly maintaining tools. -Worked as an engineering administrative assistant preparing, documenting and filing various forms, orders and requisitions to make the engineering and customer service processes run more smoothly. Worked closely with the engineering department to ensure that customer orders and requests were responded to in a prompt and professional manner. Through time spent in these and other departments gained an overall understanding of the manufacturing process while continually improving already high levels of work ethic, ambition, determination and drive. Improved competencies in many areas such as planning, scheduling, organization, communication, customer service, team work, critical thinking and problem solving as well as microsoft office, outlook and excel.
