Millions of people heard Cal share stories about his meetings with the icons on Tim Ferriss's podcast. The conversation lasted for more than three hours and audience response led Tim to invite Cal back for an encore, and then encourage Cal to start his own podcast. Big Questions was born at the end of 2017 with Tim as Cal's first guest. Basketball legend Kobe Bryant was the second. Since then, Big Questions has followed the passage of Cal's life for more than 300 episodes and now often looks at the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives.

  • Around The World
    Traveler
Around The World Nov 1982 - Jan 1992
Cal spent a decade traveling around the globe with very little money, meeting people on trains and buses who often invited him to see their homes and meet their families and friends, who then passed Cal on to their friends and connections. This is the time period where Cal's curiosity about people began to morph into a style of conversation that would have great success a decade later in interviews with world leaders, business icons and artists. This is also how Cal met the woman who'd become his wife on the most beautiful beach in Brazil . . . which ended the adventure and pivoted Cal back to work.

Inside Sports was funded by The Washington Post and featured the iconic author Hunter S. Thompson, Pulitzer Prize winner David Halberstam and Hall of Fame sports writer Gary Smith. And a very good time it was for Cal, learning from the writers and meeting the athletes he'd looked up to during his youth, until the magazine's financial lifeline was pulled, which set Cal off on his next journey.
