My name is Cali Wright, I recently graduated with my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Saginaw Valley State University. I have always been passionate about helping others and I had the opportunity to be exposed to many healthcare professions in high school. When I first heard about occupational therapy I sought out an opportunity to shadow an occupational therapist. I love that occupational therapy is client-centered and holistic, which is what initially intrigued me. I fell in love with the profession and knew it was what I wanted to do. I have worked many previous jobs in the healthcare field and other industries to grow my skill set and interpersonal skills. During my time at Saginaw Valley State University, I have been exposed to occupational therapy in various settings. I have completed level-one fieldwork in outpatient orthopedic and a non-traditional pediatric settings. I have completed level-two fieldwork in inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing settings. Additionally throughout my program and fieldwork experiences I have been able to collaborate with other professions such as nursing, social work, and physical therapy to grow my interprofessional communication skills. Becoming involved in my community and volunteering is something I have always been very passionate about. I sought out the opportunity to hold a board position in the Student Occupational Therapy Association as a way to connect with others and become more involved. In addition to this, my role as a member of both the Student Occupational Therapy Association and the honor society, Pi Theta Epsilon, allowed me to become involved in various volunteer opportunities with community organizations in need.
