Alongside my part-time retail positions, I have also started Freelancing as an Illustrator and Character Artist. I've taken on various commission pieces over the years from individuals, but I have also worked with companies and businessess -Zuccini People Games & Letinman Games - I worked in collaboration with other Artists for these two businesses to create the boargame "Adventure Tactics, Domianne's Tower" [https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/268504/adventure-tactics-domiannes-tower] They already had a primary artist, so I was hired to design and finalise some of the minor monsters and summons.I was also invited by ClipStudio to work with them and Wacom at the 2019 MCM Comic Con London, where I was a featured Artist, answering questions and showing people how to use the software, as well as showcasing my work.To view my work, please visit my website at: https://calicomaher.wixsite.com/knightmarearts

As with most of my previous retail jobs, customer service and merchandising were my primary jobs in this role. Of course, this was made much more difficult because of the pandemic and the regulations in place. Stock had to be worked much quicker and the levels of stressful situations rose. I also spent more time than any other handling money and working on the tills, so I was required to be quick and efficient when dealing with customers.

Despite also being a retail position, this job is very different from my prior positions. The first and foremost difference is that I have spent most of my time here alone, manning the stall alone without a Manager, and because of this I have had to develop my initiative and critical thinking. This position is also much more customer orientated than my previous positions; it isn’t uncommon for me to spend 30+ minutes with a single customer trying to find something that fits their needs, and so I’ve had to develop my selling skills.

Much like my other jobs to date, my primary focus is to work with customers and to make their shopping experience as enjoyable as possible. When not helping the customer, I have been given tasks such as the prenote, price audits, pricing, MSL checks, customer flows, recovery, and an array of other tasks which go towards helping the department function. Because of the nature of Markethall and how physically demanding it can be with some of its stock, I am also not averse to doing some heavy lifting.

Much like when working at Subway, at the Card Factory I have had to deal with customers on a day-to-day basis and help them with their shopping needs. I’ve also had more involvement with product delivery, setting up displays for Christmas/Valentine’s Day/Mother’s Day, and arranging stock both on the shop floor and out back. Due to the recent holidays, such as Christmas, and the nature of the shop, I’ve also adapted to working in a very busy environment with many customers.

Although I was only with Grupo Konecta (Santander) as a Customer Service Advisor for a short time, I was able to amass some knowledge about the ins-and-outs of office environments within Santander. Here I learnt a lot about data protection and personal security, and was able to broaden my customer hospitality skills and learn how to address customers more professionally.

Whilst working here I had to deal with customers on a day-to-day basis, and thus was able to improve my customer service skills. I was given jobs to do which had to be completed efficiently and in a timely manner, which taught me more about keeping to a schedule and how to work well in a team and with other people. As well as working on the till and aiding customers, I was also taught how to prepare food and how to keep the area sanitised.
