When I was eight, I had a brilliant idea. One that would leave most adults to question my sanity. I decided to take a trip, 30 miles from home, to attend a carnival at my school. This happened in Chicago, IL, where the traffic is like a pack of caffeinated squirrels darting in every direction, all chasing the same acorn. But, I had a plan and knew exactly how to execute it. I walked through the wild streets to the bus stop, hopped on the right bus, switched to the correct train, and somehow made my way from Uptown Chicago to O’Hare Airport. The fact that I didn’t get kidnapped was a miracle.Even at a young age, I had this knack for coming up with insane ideas and figuring out how to make them happen. Let’s just say I was never the teacher’s pet. If I set my mind on something, I wouldn’t half-ass it. Nope, I was all in. This led to years of soul-searching, where I figured out two things: 1) I’m a very visual person, and 2) I like solving problems. Anytime someone mentioned an issue, even in an elevator when it was none of my business, I would imagine five different ways to fix it.That’s how I found my way into technology. In my early days, I was a web programmer, but let’s be real—I was never thrilled with the “what” I was programming. After more “WTF” moments than I can count, I realized I belonged on the design side. Enter: User Experience Design (UXD). I fell in love with it. During the early days of UX, when it was still this mysterious term no one understood, I was brought in to set the foundation. I led teams through UX research, information architecture, prototype development, usability testing, and visual design. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the top brands in the world and even got tangled up in a few government projects.Fast forward, technology is still a big part of my life, but I have a growing passion for mental health. I started a nonprofit to support domestic abuse survivors, and honestly, it’s been the most fulfilling chapter yet. When I’m not in full geek and superhero mode, I love writing stories and poems. I also enjoy singing, dancing, and painting whatever mess to ease my mental stress. You could say my life is a glorious mix of geekhood, Wonder Woman, creativity, and chaos—and I wouldn’t have it any other way! :)
