At 13 years old, I worked my first construction site. I was fascinated to see upon completion that there was something in a space where there was once nothing. Taking a set of two-dimensional plans and turning them into a 3D building was captivating. Knowing I played a role in constructing a space for people to live, work, and play was exhilarating. The sense of pride that comes from an experience like that is like no other...or so I thought.Fast forward 38 years, countless building projects, and a partnership in a fast-growing, multimillion dollar company, and the stakes have changed. Building a building is one thing. Building a business is another. They both start the same: A concept. Two-dimensional. Something where there is nothing. But building a business is different. It means people depend on YOU for their jobs. It’s not a project with a process or an end-date. It’s not a structure where people live or work. It’s a responsibility to sustain long-term jobs in a safe environment where people can take every advantage to succeed and provide for their families.
