Aggie Gateway To Success Program Coordinator
College Station, Tx
I served as a senior mentor, trainer, assistant to the director, and event/social media coordinator. My duties included creating presentations for students and their parents using PowerPoint, hosting weekly meetings with groups of students and holding private meetings, scheduling meetings for the director of the program, and planning program events. The Aggie Gateway to Success program allows a select group of freshmen to be provisionally admitted to the university. Upon completing summer school with a satisfactory GPA, the freshmen are then fully admitted for the fall semester. I was one of those freshmen in 2012, and I've been mentoring ever since my acceptance. Gateway mentors help the freshmen to adjust to college life and guide them through their time at A&M. The program expanded in 2015 and came to be called Gateway Plus. Gateway Plus students are freshmen that were accepted in the Gateway summer program, but are also first generation college students. My fellow mentors and I guide them throughout their first year of college, and help them deal with the pressures and excitement of being the first in their family to go to college.
