I am passionate about learning how food is going to shape our future. I’m really enjoying my current experience with Schnucks. I spend most of my time reviewing product labels for product launches and redesigns, preparing food in the kitchen for various cuttings, running both informal and formal sensory panels, deliberating on labeling strategy with the legal and food safety teams, responding to complaints, and communicating quality issues to our vendors. A large portion of my job is also engaging our teammates with our current products via internal tastings and other informal product sampling events. I spend a lot of time putting together surveys to assess product quality and I manage the organization and cleanliness of our test kitchen. I’m fortunate to touch almost every category of the store in some way; as a New Jersey native I’ve had a lot of fun learning about the food preferences of the Midwest. Saint Louis is one of the most interesting cities in the nation and I’m proud to call it home.I want to work and be engaged with companies that are changing the business of food by trying new things, using resources effectively, and engaging consumers with exciting items. The grocery business is extremely competitive and affects everyone. I’m really grateful for everything I’ve been afforded to experience in this life and am far from finished learning, growing, and contributing to the improvement of our food and overall economy.I have a breadth of highly transferable skills (see work experience below) which are grounded in the three most important attributes of what I view as meaningful work: freeing up time for critical thinking by simplifying existing workflows and processes, creating new ideas through conversation and engagement, and providing an open door to engage co-workers to have productive and meaningful work relationships. Here are the most important experiences of my career.- Developing research-based knowledge on the nucleotide content of by-products of some of the most valuable fisheries in the world;- Working cross-functionally with operations and culinary teams to figure out meaningful capital investments to improve throughput and quality;- Assessing the value of certifications;- Onboarding retail and foodservice products which are industry game-changers;- Reworking existing SKUs to mimic culinary experience with better equipment and more affordable raws;- Generating knowledge of key quality process steps during production;- Launching hundreds of products in the private label space for a highly competitive regional grocer
