What I loved the most about my journey to becoming a systems and software engineer were the many different paths I had to explore to reach my destination. Whether automating manual processes, managing Unix servers, or developing full-stack applications, I have thoroughly enjoyed each step I’ve taken through this interdisciplinary field.My career to date has been technology focused within the fast-moving telecommunications industry. In my most recent role as Senior Systems Engineer, I was responsible for building and maintaining a suite of Java programs that automated database transactions within a mission-critical telecom provisioning system. This application reduced manual labor costs by over $20M per year.As a Unix systems administrator, I maintained a 99% uptime by proactively monitoring servers, implementing system redundancy, and remediating security scan findings. The wide range of knowledge and experience I acquired while fulfilling these duties has made me highly effective at troubleshooting technical issues and resolving them quickly.I enthusiastically took on application development as well. My attitude and desire to achieve in this arena resulted in me receiving the ‘Verizon Excellence Award’ presented by the CEO for developing a full-stack (LAMP stack - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) ticketing system.My approach to systems design and integration is one of innovation and proactiveness. Listening carefully to customers as they explain their issues ensures I can accurately understand and document requirements. I always keep an open line of communication with the users to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of a system and make improvements.I enjoy leading teams and collaborating with coworkers. Colleagues describe me as someone with integrity and an unwavering work ethic. I’m committed to reaching my goals, and I’m prepared to put in the work to achieve them, both in my professional and personal life. When I’m not working, I am an avid distance runner.
