Following redundancy from Siren Funiture caused by reasons impacted by the corona virus, I secured myself a role as an Application Engineer at Ezi-Dock. Ezi-Dock specialise in transfer systems for the pharmaceutical industry and my role here is to work with the customers to provide custom solutions that suit their needs, fit their budget and are compatible with current equipment. My role involves concept designs, prototyping, liaising with customers and sales agents, liaising with manufacturers and suppliers, regular updates and meetings with our customer support team, engineering managers and stock control team etc. This role has been my first heavily engineering based role whereby creativity and aesthetics are not set as high on the agenda and tolerances, standards and knowledge of materials specs and mechanisms have a greater importance.My responsibilities include:• Transfer System Concepts• Prototyping• Creation of engineering drawings• Liaising with customers and sales agents• Designing in-house tables and fixings for production line• Design and engineer products to the appropriate tolerances• Create concept presentations

Siren furniture, based in Long Eaton, design quality sofas, chairs and beds for large companies such as John Lewis and Debenhams, as well as other smaller retailers. My role there as a furniture designer involved all aspects of design and more. From concept to prototyping and then leasing with factories during batch manufacture, I was involved with every step. In the current market, it is extremely important to not only design quality furniture that people want, but design furniture for the right price that will make a profit. My role as a design assistant was taking the brief from the client and creating their desired images, animations, models or drawings. Alcuris at the time was a young startup company with only 1 other employee. Alcuris was developing a telecare product and service called Memo. During my short 6 week internship there, I got the chance to work on a variety of tasks and used and developed a wide range of skills. This short but packed and busy internship was a great experience to get hands on and was interesting seeing how small companies start out and grow.
