Callum Parr Work Experience Details
  • Isogenix Limited
    Senior Scientist
Isogenix Limited Dec 2023 - Present
    Oxford, England, United Kingdom
  • Riken Center For Integrative Medical Sciences
Special Postdoctoral Researcher (Riken Spdr Program)
Riken Center For Integrative Medical Sciences Aug 2017 - Nov 2023
    Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan
In this current role, my core responsibility is to lead development of innovative genomic technologies aimed at enhancing comprehension of cell identity establishment, with a specific emphasis on nervous system. Here, I utilize iPSC cell models and harness Nanopore sequencing techniques to investigate transcriptome dynamics and RNA modifications. I also perform both laboratory experimentation and bioinformatics analysis. Furthermore, I keep abreast of latest developments in advanced genomic research and contribute to existing body of knowledge through critical literature reviews and analysis.Noteworthy Highlights:• Onboarded long-read sequencing in laboratory, configuring hardware and workflow procedures for comprehensive DNA and RNA investigation.• Established standardized protocols for annotating novel RNA isoforms and conducting downstream analysis of long-read RNA-seq data.• Leveraged a blend of wet and dry-lab expertise to facilitate the seamless implementation of these initiatives.
  • Riken Brain Science Institute
    Jsps Postdoctoral Researcher
Riken Brain Science Institute Apr 2017 - Jul 2017
    Saitama, Japan
In Laboratory for Protein Conformation Diseases investigating local protein translation in dendrites
  • Kyoto University, Cira
    Postdoctoral Researcher
Kyoto University, Cira Jun 2014 - Mar 2017
    Kyoto, Japan
In this previous role, I created synthetic RNA-based miRNA switches with the primary objective of purifying distinct cell lineages obtained from iPSCs to facilitate readiness for eventual cell transplantation. I prepared research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presented research findings at conferences and seminars. I facilitated the development of grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing and future research projects. I maintained accurate records of experiments, results, and protocols. Drafted and finalised progress reports and presentations for project stakeholders.Key Accomplishments:• Devised efficient methods for isolating desired differentiated cells while mitigating presence of potentially problematic cells that could lead to tumour formation or adverse effects in cell therapies.• Optimized and enhanced mRNA generation by incorporating modified N1-methyl-pseudouridine that significantly increased the efficiency and safety of miRNA-switch technology for potential clinical applications.• Developed a live RNA-tracking technique to gain a deeper understanding of RNA's functions, behaviour, and roles in health and disease, with the potential to impact fields ranging from basic cellular biology to therapeutic development.
  • Kyoto University, Center For Ips Celll Research & Application
    Jsps Short Term Research Fellow
Kyoto University, Center For Ips Celll Research & Application Jan 2013 - Dec 2013
    Kyoto, Japan
Working within the Department of reprogramming science at the new institute for iPS cell research and application (CiRA) supervised by Dr Hirohide Saito. Using RNA switches to control cell determination and probe basic biology.
  • Imperial College London
    Visiting Researcher
Imperial College London Jan 2012 - Dec 2012
    Hammersmith Hospital,
  • Imperial College London
    Research Postgraduate
Imperial College London Apr 2008 - Jun 2012
Imperial College London, Faculty Of Medicine
My research focuses on signaling pathways, namely the Wnt cascade and its possible relation to the molecular pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Royal Veterinary College
    Research Technician
Royal Veterinary College Jun 2011 - Dec 2012
    Camden Campus
Working within Dr Sue Brown's lab within the Veterinary Basic Sciences department
  • Glaxosmithkline
    Industrial Placement Student
    Glaxosmithkline Sep 2005 - Aug 2006
    Stevenage, England, United Kingdom
In this industry experience, I validated PDE4 as a pivotal therapeutic target for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through a comprehensive screening of protein expression profiles extracted from patient lung tissue samples. I conducted rigorous scientific research to substantiate potential of PDE4 modulation in COPD treatment, contributing valuable insights to advance the field of respiratory medicine.
