Calum was responsible for training, coaching and coxing the novice squad throughout the year. His technical knowledge about the rowing sport in combination with his management skills resulted in a fast-learning and powerful team determined to win every entered race. His training sessions were not only hard work, but he ensured they were also fun and they contribute to teambuilding. Due to Calum’s training schedule, his coaching and coxing, we’ve achieved wins in the Clydesdale Head of the River Novice 4s and 8s, the Western Eights Head of the Clyde in the Novice 8s, a Top 150 ranking in the Women’s Head of the River Race in London, Gold Medals in the Res2 8+, 2nd VIIIs, 3rd VIIIs and 3rd IVs at the Scottish University Championships, and a win at the Edinburgh vs Glasgow Boat Race. The biggest achievement was the Bronze medal collected at the British Universities Championships in May 2013. Calum did not only teach me how to row excellent, but he also contributed to an amazing year in Glasgow as an international student. He managed to make a tough training schedule fun and to get a powerful team out of such a diverse group of girls. Through this experience, I can recommend Calum as a coach to any other club and I know his management skills and determination would be an asset to any professional organisation."
