Sibol ng Agham at Teknolohiya (SIBAT) are an NGO promoting village level sustainable development in rural communities in the Philippines. My voluntary work was conducted at their Center for Renewable Energy and Appropriate Technology (CREATech) where my work coupled a combination of field work, design and project management. Projects I was involved with included the refurbishment of existing rural off-grid micro hydro systems, the sizing of turbines and penstocks in new microhydro systems and project managing the repair of collapsed greenhouses and installation of new greenhouses. In addition, I designed new greenhouses that are more resilient and cost effective.

Following on from many positive sailing experiences at National and European events with the RYA Scotland Laser Radial Youth Development Team, I decided to give back to my home club were my sailing journey started.I completed my RYA first aid, dinghy instructor and coaching qualifications and began coaching at the Brown Cup Scottish Schools championship in June 2016. Since then, I have done a combination voluntary and paid work at my club. at numerous club events, both teaching novices how to sail and coaching more advanced sailors.These experiences have provided me a platform to lead diverse groups of various ages and personalities. This has honed my interpersonal skills where being assertive and holding the interest of your audience is vital to ensure they are happy and learn a lot from the experience. Whilst I am still young in my coaching and instructing career, I have received a lot of praise from sailors and parents on my ability to listen, enthusiasm and assertiveness which are all skills that I believe would suit me well in all working environments.

Currently Sunamp heat batteries do not sense partial charge and only indicate when a product is fully charged. My role was to find a means of determining partial charge and advising on how to implement this or steps needed to implement this in the Sunamp product range. Responsibilities included: • Set up experimental rigs using pre-existing equipment.• Contacting suppliers to identify best solutions and ordering parts when necessary.• Programme and wiring Squirrel dataloggers to monitor results.• Write MATLAB codes to automatically analyse results.• Prepare reports and presentations to share findings.• Give regular progress updates to my mentor.• Collaborate with other employees working on other projects to share their knowledge on the topic.Key achievements included:• Developed an algorithm that could determine the charge state to within 5-10% accuracy for most of the charge range (there were brief moments of greater inaccuracy at high charge states).• Identified numerous areas that would improve the product and yield more accurate readings of charge state whilst improving its lifespan.• Delivered an hour-long presentation to the CEO, design engineers, the chemistry team, sales team and the production team whilst being intensely questioned throughout and sparked numerous conversations about potential future work and changes to existing products and testing procedures.
