For more than 30 years, I've had an active practice in health policy and law, benefits, and legislative matters. I currently provide advice to major food industry companies and real estate developers on their relations with organized labor. I served as Legislative Director for McDermott Will & Emery LLP, and prior to that I was a legislative representative for the American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) in Washington. While with the AFL-CIO, I chaired their legislative task forces on health and employee benefit issues, public and federal employee issues, job training and education, privatization and welfare. The focus of the respective task forces was to coordinate labor’s effort while developing, where possible, coalitions with other interested groups.I also previously served as Washington Counsel for the Health Insurance Association of America, representing the organization before Congress on issues affecting the health insurance industry. I had particular involvement in such areas as national health insurance, health manpower, professional standards review organizations, hospital cost containment, ERISA, and health maintenance organizations. I also worked as a legislative consultant for the Washington-based American Association of Health Plans, formerly known as Group Health Association of America.In the public service sector, I was a senior legislative assistant to US Senator Richard S. Schweiker (R-PA) from 1975-1976. From 1973 to 1975, I served as counsel for former Missouri Governor and Senator Kit Bond (R-MO).
