As Head of Engineering & Tool Design, and I lead a group of engineers & designers in product & process development, project management, tooling design and development . We are primarily involved in projects related to the medical field, as well as automotive fields such as connectors, contacts, sensors and springs. I have management oversight on all engineering aspects, and my team actively consults and engages with customers in designing the right product for their needs. We provide technical support in project management and product development, and are heavily involved in RFQ, as well as validation and qualification processes.As department head, I am also responsible for departmental budgeting, KPI setting, leadership, management and career navigation of the team. As a project production manager, I oversee all projects and production aspects, and use statistical techniques to compile and analyze data and achieve appropriate improvement initiatives. I constantly keep myself updated with new technology and materials, in order to improve the process with innovation. I perform research for the purpose of preparing technical reports, as well as for development and preventive maintenance investigations.I look to continually improving the process capability (such as process Cpk) and productivity by process characterization. Job Scope (Quality Engineering):• Partnership with Research & Development (R&D) in developing and evaluating new products on an annual basis.• Commits QC1 (Trial production stage) and MPAN (Mass Production Approval Notice) of Master Schedule• Prototype evaluation and implement design change through Six Sigma analysis.• Inspects conceptual and structural designs.• Prepare and verify product check sheet according to specifications, and interpret critical dimensions of gauge/jig designs.• Support cost reduction initiatives/product quality improvement through reliability and function testing.• Review work instruction and that process/assembly methods are in accordance with process owners (for e.g. Batam factory and vendors), and maintain QET (Quality Evaluation Technique) reliability.• Study and analysis of competitors’ products using SWOT process (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats)• Analysis and determine root causes of problems and identifies solutions for improvement.• Trades shows (for e.g. Shanghai in 2007 and 2010) for purpose of gathering market intelligence, analyze consumer trends and competitors’ products, and also attend to customers’ visits.• Liaise with vendors and sub-contractors to ensure adherence to costing, quality and design standards.Core responsibilities:• Team Leader for 2 engineers covering 2 products and ensuring the proper evaluation & standards are met during new products’ development.• Monthly summarized presentation to higher Management on project progress & actions plans.• Lead Small Group Activity (SGA) teams in completing Cost Innovative projects.( 2 projects per year ) • Liaise with vendors & sub-contractors on Single Parts Quality requirements • Review the Batam factory quality issues such as assembly yield, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), Incoming Quality (First Article)
