I’m a creative professional with unique range, passion, talent, and skills in multiple disciplines. Ideation is a natural part of who I am; every part of my humanity is brought to bear when working on any project. Whether it’s writing, audio production, editing, voiceover, interviewing, building community, or composing music, human connection and story are always the foundation. There are three pillars at the core of who I am: Creating, Connecting, and Storytelling.Everything I do in my life sits at the center of the triangle that these three pillars create. The thread that runs through the center of each pillar, wrapping itself around every endeavor, is Sound. The journey that started when I was thirteen years old - teaching myself to play the guitar, writing, and singing with the first three chords I could play - that journey continues now. I lend my voice to projects for radio, television, and more. I write music and make podcasts. I build entire evenings around the story arcs that soundtrack creates in a bar setting. When I'm writing prose, I envision you hearing my voice in your head.Sound is as intimate and powerful as touch, as world-building as sight, as triggering as smell. And for me, sound is not simply a consideration; it is the sense for which I have a natural one. It is part of me.I work from a place of creative instinct, letting my subconscious begin the process. I trust in the ability of my mind and my heart to do the initial groundwork and then build from there: editing, refining, polishing. Where is the story? Who am I talking to? How can we connect? What does this feel like and what does it do?My ideation process is constant, natural, and benefits from the organization-based minds of others. I have honed my ability, however, to switch between roles: the creator, then the editor, then the producer. Repeat. With other people's projects, I fall into whichever role is needed most, and relish all of them. My entire work history is dressed with multiple hats, and now I choose which I wear each day. Without story, we are lost. Without connection we are stranded.I use sound, words, and wonder to create relationships, build worlds, and break boundaries.

Voiceover ActorStewart Talent 2008 - PresentChicago, IlI am a voiceover actor with Stewart Talent for commercial radio and TV, online Interactive media, and more. My career in voiceover combines my natural instincts for audio with my conservatory acting training to bring listeners closer to content and products.I have worked with such clients as Nintendo, McDonald's, Kellogg's, Jellyvision, Verizon, and Jeep...just to name a few. I've worked with such advertising agencies as DDB, Energy BBDO, Leo Burnett, Young and Rubicam, Draft FCB, and more.A graceful collaborator, I'm always creative, fun, and consistent. Along with an innate and trained ability to improvise, I have a reputation for keeping session-times short and sweet. I take pride in my ability to zoom out and see the bigger picture before zooming back in to focus on my specific role. Telling stories with sound is my specialty; voiceover is a vital component. -
Professional ActorSag-Aftra Actor May 2005 - PresentChicago, IllinoisArt is communication that entertains, enlightens, and inspires. It creates context, challenges the status-quo, and often holds up a mirror to our truest nature. I can see now that my younger self gravitated to acting out of an innate desire to connect with others, learn about myself, and create meaningful experiences for other people. Simultaneously growing up while growing into the work, I continued to deepen my understanding of story and its place in our lives. Telling stories in order to connect also leads to a deeper connection with oneself. Artful exploration, for me, can often become a kind of self-examination, especially with the craft of acting. Represented by Stewart Talent. -
Co-Owner/Operator/Experience CuratorBest Intentions Jun 2014 - Present3281 W Armitage, Chicago, IlAlong with my brother Chris Marty, I'm the Owner/Operator of Best Intentions, an innovative neighborhood bar with quality cocktails and an unpretentious environment. Over its 5-year history, Best Intentions has garnered an impressive collection of awards, press, and loyalty. At the top of the list of everything we achieved at Best is the community we built. Building community takes time; more importantly, it takes heart, soul, empathy, and honesty. The hospitality industry taught me many valuable lessons in areas such as human behavior, psychology, sales, management, team-building, collaboration, improvisation, and story. No matter what you or your company sell, in any industry, you are always selling an experience, a story. For me, every night at the bar is a story-arc that I curate and conduct. With music, lighting, design, and (most importantly) a natural yet conscious connection to others, I write a new story every night. At Best Intentions, I built a company from the ground up. I know what it takes to do so, and so regard the analogous work of others with respect and admiration. When working for someone else, I am uniquely suited to seeing and appreciating the bigger picture and how my skills, experience, expertise, and talents fit into it. Managing a business is difficult; managing people is paramount. At Best Intentions, I honed my communication skills: with clients, with employees, and with partners. Without effective and honest communication, almost nothing can be accomplished. Finally: Sound. Best Intentions is not only known for its efficient and personal service, killer cocktails, unmatched value, and spot-on design - it's also known for its music and sound quality. I use my background in audio and music to take guests on a journey. A night at Best Intentions does not simply have a soundtrack, it has a story arc and score. The audio experience at Best is simply transporting.

Audio ProducerSupport Staff Mar 2021 - Dec 2021Chicago, Illinois, United StatesSupport Staff is a non-profit helping to raise awareness about mental health in the hospitality industry. I was brought on to help with two of their podcasts.I wrote, recorded, and produced an original theme song for each podcast. For The Bite Size Podcast - a scripted "psycho-educational mini-podcast series" - I edited, mixed, mastered, and fully scored each episode. For Episode 3, "Stress Pt. 1," Support Staff was able to get all narrators on mics. The episode is linked below and is a good example of some of my work. I also edited a Spanish-language version of each episode. For "Stress Pt. 1," I was able to have the narrator into my home studio to record. *Even if you send me imperfect audio, if it's on a mic, I can make it shine. While one can certainly produce content with one's phone, zoom, etc, an audio producer can only do so much to clean it up. For Support Staff's long-form podcast, Please Hustle Responsibly, I did light editing of lengthy pauses, fixing what bothersome noises I could, mixed in the original theme song, and helped with some other audio issues. All four voices were recorded on one track on zoom and sent to me as an MP3. Not ideal, and I made recommendations to improve their audio by changing the way they recorded it.The organization made some major leadership and budget changes and ultimately abandoned the podcasts.
