As part of Akamai's Security and Technology Group (STG) I make network security products targeted to the Telco/MSO Carrier marketplace. My team's products provide mission-critical functionality keeping residential and business customers online. In 2024 our DNS engines answered more than 13 trillion queries per day with over 2 billion security blocks daily.The products I am responsible for typically fall into one of two categories: 1) Products to protect the carrier's network infrastructure such as DDoS, PRSD and other botnet attacks that might be utilized to compromise their network's assets or performance. 2) White-labelled Secure Internet Access (SIA) products targeted for resale to their residential or SMB customers. These services focus on blocking malware, phishing and botnet threats while providing additional parental control or acceptable use policy enforcement. These services prevent new device infections and data exfiltration for previously compromised devices by utilizing a consumer-focused user interface with the ability to identify infected devices on the customer network by name.
