Colleagues describe them as "I was introduced to Cam and the Refugee Empowerment Program in 2010 when I first came to work with Memphis City School. The first week I was there a representative from her organization came and wanted to discuss how we could work together for the benefit of the ESL students. After some discussion, they offered to let us use their facility on Fridays to host a Central High School tutoring program. Every Friday, REP staff, the ESL teachers, bilingual mentors and students would meet to work on assignments. Later, we leveraged this location to host some community meetings that included REP staff, Central staff and administrators and parents. Several parents would also come there for student conferences since they could get there by walking. This partnership allowed both of our organizations to better educate and support the students and parents of this very special community. Cam's leadership and support was absolutely a key to this outreach."
