• Problem Solving – As a Teacher at the High School and Jr. College levels, I have to tailor my instruction to accommodate different learning styles of more than 100 students. In the Navy, I had to find ways to complete job assignments with limited personnel and outdated equipment. As a Graduate Student, I took complex theories and ideas from various sources to create original works of research.• Leadership – As a Teacher I guide 100+ students This includes the delegation of tasks and assignments to maximize efficiency and preparedness in the classroom. In the Navy, I supervised 13-15 sailors of varying ranks to maximize proficiency and production in two separate departments.• Administrative Skills – As a Teacher, I plan for both long and short range activities. At the beginning of the year, I map out objectives for students to learn over the course of the year and develop plans to accomplish these goals. Each week, I develop lesson plans that express how I plan to accomplish weekly objectives. Each day, I must be flexible, as the mouse is always moving the cheese. As a Graduate Student, I coordinated VAST amounts of reading, writing and research to meet deadlines.• People Skills – As a Teacher, I effectively engage people of various personalities and education levels to work towards a common goal. I must be able to negotiate as I consider the various needs of my students, their parents and the administrators of my schools. From time to time, I have to diffuse potential conflicts with students as well as their parents.• Communication – As a Teacher it is imperative that I communicate effectively . I have to speak, write and listen well to make certain that I maximize my students learning.
