Michelle did everything from the Opening Statement to the Closing Argument. Fall 2016. Alternate Public Defender - Certified Legal InternWorked extensively on the case of People v. Bemore. In 1989, Mr. Bemore was sentenced to death row. He was later granted a granted a new trial due to ineffective assistance of counsel during the penalty phase only. I regularly met with Mr. Bemore at Central Jail in order to put together a mitigation packet, which was ultimately presented to District Attorney Dumanis. Based on the mitigation packet and my supervising attorney’s presentation, the DA’s office declined to go forward with a new trial, and Mr. Bemore’s life was saved. Mr. Bemore is now working towards his drug counselor certification in order to help other inmates.
