I have been working in the technical writing field for over 19 years. I have developed a refined cradle-to-grave process for providing professional documentation--be it software user manual, hardware installation manual, product user guide, or any other documentation. I am proficient in document design, information presentation, document continuity, and formatting. My specialty is in installation manuals, user manuals, maintenance manuals, standard operating procedures, and help files. I have worked in the defense industry for over 8 years, using MIL-STD 38784 for document design unless customer-driven requirements stipulate otherwise. This includes writing system descriptions, installation procedures, operating instructions, hardware in-depth functional descriptions, maintenance (preventive and corrective) requirements and procedures, remove and replace instructions, illustrated parts breakdowns, and any associated system software descriptions. I am proficient in Adobe FrameMaker, Robohelp, Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office Suite, and various other little tools that make writing life easier and simpler. My philosophy is simple: get the job done. I put in a lot of hours making sure that I get the correct information from the right, knowledgeable people. A document is not just written by a technical writer; it is the end product of many departments coming together to provide a useable manual for the end user. I work with hardware engineers, software developers, project managers, quality test engineers, database administrators, external customers ... all of whom add to the quality and usability of a document. My job is to take their industry-specific terms and put it into a context that "Joe Public" can understand.
