PhD student working at the interface between Materials Science and Microbiology. My primary work focusses on developing novel, single-cell methodologies for engineering the structure of bacterial communities. We are using this technology to study antibiotic tolerance and interspecies interactions in the microbiome of the human nose, with the objective of better understanding chronic infections.

Summer Biophysics Research Project In Collaboration With Fixed PhageThe University Of Edinburgh Jun 2017 - Aug 2017EdinburghWorked in collaboration with the start up Fixed Phage to analyse how bacteriophages (viruses that prey on bacteria) change the growth and swimming behaviour of bacteria. I started this work as a summer project but continued it in my Masters project.Developed a particle tracking code in C and Python for analysing videos of bacteria which I used to characterise their swimming behaviour during bacteriophage infection.Worked in a lab culturing bacteria, constructing microfluidic devices and performing confocal, fluorescent and FLIM microscopy. -
Summer Geophysics Research PlacementThe University Of Edinburgh Jun 2016 - Aug 2016EdinburghWorked as part of a Geophysics research team at the University of Edinburgh to analyse data taken from a recent survey of a volcano in Ethiopia. The survey employed a geophysics technique called Magnetotellurics, which measures the resistivity of the underlying rock. I used Matlab to analyse a large, unstructured data set taken from this survey to compare how the resistivity of the volcano had changed since the previous study, 4 years earlier. -
