Remain trained in small arms precision shooting and in ‘Unarmed Combat’. Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry. Obtains help by sounding alarms. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers. Controls traffic by directing drivers. Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures. Maintains environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls. Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Under the direction of the Jetson Youth Center Superintendent or designee, the incumbent is accountable for the custody, care, and safety of Youth Center detainees on an assigned unit, and the security of the Youth Center facility. Assures strict adherence to established departmental policies, procedures, and orders in the performance of duties.Coordinate, direct, and monitor the daily activities of detainees on an assigned unit. Review pass-on information and reports from the previous shift. Familiarize new detainees with Youth Center rules, regulations, and operating procedures, and enforce such.Make regular inspections of assigned unit, and personal inspections of detainees to ensure the safety of detainees and security of the facility. Maintain "watch sheet"​ for designated detainees (suicidal detainees, detainees with medical conditions, etc.). Report any unusual behavior, conditions, or activities to the supervisor.Document any unusual activities or incidents (incident reports, informational reports, etc.). Assure pertinent information is passed on to the oncoming shift.Coordinate, direct, and monitor individual and group activities and appointments (mealtime, court appearances, medical appointments, recreation, group leisure, classroom education/training, work assignments, etc.). Maintain log of detainees'​ whereabouts. May escort detainees to group activities outside of the unit.Monitor detainees'​ intake of medication as prescribed by the medical department. Alert Nurse to detainees' request or need for medical attention. Respond to medical emergencies; consult with supervisor, and take appropriate action in strict accordance with established procedures.Communicate and establish rapport and trust with detainees to facilitate meaningful interactions, problem solving, and exchange of ideas.Consult with and provide input to supervisors on matters involving discipline, and take action as directed.
