Leading a multi functional team which is responsible for plant maintenance and reliability, utilities, facilities, stores and contractor management.

The DSM Dalry manufacturing site produces various forms of Vitamin C and Pantothenates. In this role I lead a team of Engineers who are responsible for the maintenance of the Dalry site. As part of my duties I am also expected to ensure that regulatory compliance in such areas as PSSR, CoMAH, LOLER etc. is maintained for the plant as well as maintenance on Categorised safety and quality Instruments. As a Chartered Mechanical Engineer I am the specialist signatory for projects and high risk activities on site. I have played an integral part in the restructuring of the maintenance organisation to align it with those of DSM. This has involved a bottom up approach to incorporation of corporate work processes and the creation of new jobs to fulfil the roles within this.

In my role I was responsible for Engineering on site at Newmilns. This involved ensuring that the plant got the ‘best’ service from maintenance sub-contractors as well as planning and implementing development of the plant processes. During this time I had been a key player in a £5.5 million investment in automation of the plant, incorporating robots, AGVs and purpose built machines into what had been a manually intensive manufacturing process. This strengthened the Newmilns role as the worldwide master plant for the company in the face of increasing overseas competition from within the group as well as outside. I was also responsible for the preparation of plant capital expenditure, and engineering revenue budget routinely managing projects greater than £100k. I was expected to be conversant with current Health and Safety legislation e.g. PUWER as well as the environmental impact of the business under ISO14001. I was also responsible for the creation and implementation of an Integrated Manufacturing culture through training, teambuilding and, initiatives such as RCM, TPM and Value Stream Analysis.

Responsible for a small machine shop and an electrical/mechanical assembly operation. During my short time with TSL it achieved ISO 9000 accreditation towards which I played an important part in the creation of manufacturing systems

Employed within the Design organisation at East Kilbride as a Project Design Engineer (previous to January 1993 as a Design Engineer). In this position I assisted the Senior Project Engineer in the Supervision of several Design Engineers, Designers and Graduates. During this time I also represented the company in a technical advisory capacity in the USA, for extended periods, supporting the customer, partner companies, and sub-contractors. During this time I was able to exercise independent technical judgement in pressure situations to allow successful assembly and installation of a new generation of engines for experimental and production aircraft.
