As a french and linguistics student I have acquired knowledge regarding an extensive range of topics. Subsequently, I have been able to consolidate this knowledge through regular practical application of skills. In a concerted effort to further my communicative abilities, I completed a year abroad assistantship which placed emphasis on the importance of communication and highlighted its importance in the workplace. I was able to receive feedback pertinent to each lesson which allowed me to develop each skill smoothly as the year progressed. These skills are highly transferrable in speech and language therapy as a multi-faceted level of communication is required between therapist and patient to deliver effective intervention strategies. Having worked with a variety of pupils during the assistantship, I have broadened my character in developing an understanding of giving and receiving feedback. I can now therefore respond to queries empathetically, drawing upon the opinion of my colleagues if necessary.My sporting exploits have also deepened my appreciation of proper time management and underlined the importance of work-life balance. I regularly use planners and training logs to ensure the balance is sustainable and I tailor my efforts to achieve specific goals.
