I initially started as a general labourer working on housing sites as part of a gang responsible for installing pipework for utilities and sewers, as well as undertaking housing estate road construction.Following completion of my Dumper & Roller tests, and subsequently my abrasive wheels course, I took responsibility for constructing manholes, laying drainage runs, benching manholes and using the Stihl saw to cut channels as needed. I was responsible for air testing pipes to ensure that the work met the required quality standards. Many of the jobs also required us to lay curbs, stone and tarmac for the roads and putting gullies in.In 2021, based on my experience and skills, I was asked to step up as Assistant Foreman whenever the Foreman was away or offsite, which mean me building relationships and working closely with other gangs on site and ensuring that the work progressed as scheduled.Since 2022, and because of the high quality of my work, I have acted as Foreman on a number of smaller jobs and finishing works, including remedial work on various projects in order to achieve tight project deadlines. This has required me to work closely with Contracts Managers and Site Agents, agreeing solutions and ensuring, through morning briefing and supervision, that all tasks are completed to a high quality and within agreed timescales.My recent experience has also included working on a major bridge diversion (M42) and a major sewer diversion and repair.

Following a challenging selection process with many applicants several years older than myself, I was accepted onto the Skanska Civil Engineering apprenticeship.The apprenticeship involved both classroom and practical skills development at their training centre in Norfolk. In addition, I had on-site placements including:- 10 weeks on site in Ipswich setting out a new sub-station- 6 weeks on site in Peckham & Croydon working out concrete volumes, helping with laying and doing concrete testing during laying
