I started out at the Odeon as a cinema host in July 2021 but was soon promoted to a management role because of my leadership and problem-solving skills. This role allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills through managing staff as I was responsible for the safety and wellbeing of a team of cinema hosts, whom I hoped to inspire to deliver the best possible experience for our guests. I was solely responsible for the running of a busy cinema, which included cashing up, ensuring the premises are clean and secure and that staff had undertaken all the tasks required of them and many more responsibilities.

Canalside Studios is a small indie studio that employs a team of 8 different students each year. The team is then given a year to develop a game from start to finish. During my time at Canalside I was the lead programmer of two on the team. I learnt a lot about teamwork, working within roles, the games development pipeline, project management, sprints, timeframes and milestones, source control and a lot more about Unreal Engine and C++. By the end of the year, we had developed and released a game on Steam (Descentium). Through working at Canalside I came to understand how my role fits within the team and I was able to further develop my skills within the industry. Furthermore, I now understand much more about the other team roles and the technical skills required and I can better communicate with different disciplines.
