I have always had a strong interest in computers. I started pulling apart and putting back together computers as a kid to see how they worked. Eventually I began building them, and that knowledge and interest led me to a job with Peachtree Computers, a small repair shop in Roswell, GA. At the time, it was a small but growing computer repair and retail sales shop that also did on-site technical support and networking for businesses as well as in-home repairs. During my time there, I helped to grow the business to nearly triple the yearly revenue, more than doubled staff, and an additional location. Today, the business has 3 retail locations as well as a central depot for warehousing and repairs.I spent a number of years in my twenties working hospitality jobs, including Pompieri Pizza for 5 years. Pompieri Pizza is a local Neapolitan Pizza restaurant with an emphasis on sustainability, local sourcing, and community engagement. It is also the first certified B-Corp pizza restaurant in the US. It's big sister restaurant Bull-City Burger is also the first certified B-Corp brewpub in the US.At Trader Joe's, I spent a year or so as a standard crew member-although crew at TJ's do nearly every job in the store. Eventually, I took over management of the frozen section, one of the largest and busiest sections of the store. I handled ordering, inventory and supply management and preparations, stocking and unloading, a myriad of other jobs in addition to my standard crew duties. For the last 3 years, I have been a turbine mechanic with FieldCore, a GE company, helping to repair and maintain natural gas and steam turbines in power generation. It's a vastly different field from what I had been in before, but in many ways it checks many of the boxes of my values. I get to learn how to pull large industrial equipment apart and put it back together again after learning how it works. I get to problem solve how to do each task in front of me, as things often are not as simple as "take this thing apart". I also get to help the world in a way, as power is something we all need and sometimes take for granted.With the onset of COVID, we all saw remarkable issues in supply chains across the globe, particularly in semiconductors, but in all sectors of nearly every market. That's why I chose to study Operations and Supply Chain Management at East Carolina University. Once I have my degree, I hope to use my knowledge and skills to help solve the supply chain issues of the world, so that another global product shutdown can, hopefully, be avoided in the future.
