In my last role I built a reputation for excellence in the high level management of vessel machinery and systems encompassing propulsion, hydraulics, steam systems, water treatment, and a number of other mission-critical areas for one of Carnival Corporation's leading cruise line subsidiaries. This role reported directly to the Chief Engineer and involved oversight of all daily machinery maintenance, inspections, and operations while conducting thermal surveys and delivering reports regarding oil-fired equipment and other major ship systems. I also directly handled a number of other key technical and administrative tasks such as health and safety audits, Junior Watchkeeper scheduling, drill execution, and inter-department collaboration to ensure a best-in-class passenger experience at all times.During my time in this role I accomplished a number of huge milestones. To begin with, I led a successful emergency hydraulic steering gear pump replacement to satisfy United States Coast Guard requirements, which happened after an unexpected failure and prevented several million dollars in cruise revenue loss. I also identified and rectified numerous issues which saved contractors and the company thousands in parts and man hours, allowed for a rapid return to service for each item, and prevented further seal and pump failures. Additionally, I earned recognition as the "go to" for leading emergency maintenance efforts on complex systems such as steam and boiler plants, sewage treatment systems, and engine room equipment, and was commended for rapidly completing a highly complex and awkward vessel fuel module modification on an in-service vessel which involved identifying incorrect parts and replacing them quickly to ensure contractor completion.

In this role I expertly handled all aspects of the equipment inspection, survey, and maintenance process aboard Holland America cruise ships. This included the implementation of Vessel Sanitation plans and U.S. Public Health documentation with a sharp focus on maximizing fresh water production efficiency and safety while answering directly to the chief engineer for desalination equipment, bilge processing systems, fuel bunkers, ballast tanks and voids. I also served as a primary mentor and trainer for junior engineers while managing the compliance process for company ship and environmental plan policies.Among my more notable achievements as a 2nd Engineering officer include leading a massive and successful effort to resolve a fuel contamination crisis that impeded vessel fuel/oil purifier operations. This encompassed a 21-day period involving multiple specialists, shifts, and overhaul efforts and allowed the vessel to continue operations, saving millions in potential revenue loss and preventing fines and charges against the company. I also identified and resolved several major engine cylinder head faults that had been difficult to diagnose or rectify.I also worked to maintain MS Eurodam’s perfect 100 points score during U.S.P.H. inspections which allowed MS Eurodam to become the longest consecutive perfect scoring vessel audited by U.S. public health on no less than 13 occasions. In my initial roles with Holland America I established a track record of excellence in the inspection and maintenance of high level ship systems and equipment, while also building a wealth of hands-on experience in vessel operations, logs, and documentation. The role involved extensive Annex I & VI-based maintenance and logging, oversight of oil-fired boiler and steam system inspections, and working collaboratively with other engineers and company management teams to implement improvements to the failed equipment reporting, maintenance, and documentation process during new build periods.Once I began with the company, I was quickly promoted to 3rd Engineering Officer for my consistent high performance and superb sense of urgency when addressing system and regulatory issues. My other big accomplishments included the successful completion of a critical new build assignment aboard the MS Nieuw Amsterdam while acting as a key team member for the vessel's fit-out and sea trial process.

In my first professional role, I served as the primary contact for all administrative and office team support functions for Aberdeenshire's governing body overseeing critical area transportation infrastructure. This involved significant use of computer systems and office technology to manage key tasks while collaborating with council engineers and other staff members to improve office efficiency. As well as assist the chartered engineers and engineering technicians with project specific documents and on-site surveys.I was complimented on a regular basis for my strong attention to detail and my drive to make the office and work environment a pleasant and productive place.
