Project Officer, Active Communities Volunteering
Edinburgh, United Kingdom
I worked on the Active Communities Volunteering which supports volunteers across Scotland to deliver practical activities in their communities to make it easier for people to walk, cycle and wheel, e.g. learn to cycle, cycle skills and led walks and rides. This provides a programme of practical training to ensure our volunteers have the skills they need to run these activities safely and to promote them locally. The programme also utilises practical insights and tips from behaviour change and social change theory are incorporated into the design and promotion of these activities.Recruited new volunteers, set up new volunteer groups, and provide day-to-day management and support for volunteers.Focus on skilling volunteers to support behaviour change and create social change in their communities and on diversifying volunteer training and the range of volunteer activities Sustrans support.Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle. We connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, transform the school run and deliver a happier, healthier commute. Sustrans works in partnership, bringing people together to find the right solutions. We make the case for walking and cycling by using robust evidence and showing what can be done. We are grounded in communities and believe that grassroots support combined with political leadership drives real change, fast.Sustrans works closely with communities, the Scottish Government, local authorities and other partners to ensure that the people of Scotland have access to a network of safe walking and cycling routes; making Scotland a healthy, happy place to live, work, and play.
