Simulating contrails in a global climate model.Undergraduate research project with Imperial College London/Grantham Institute for Climate Change. Returning to my work from last Summer, I am testing the climate impact of the added contrail parametrisation to assess its suitability.I then plan to study different aircraft inputs to assess diurnal and seasonal variation.Time-depending, I may implement and test an alternative contrail parametrisation.

Grade: 80.16 %"Evaluating the influence of uncertainty from numerical weather forecast in climate-optimised flight planning."Climaviation aims to reduce the climate impact of aviation by exploring various mitigation strategies.One of these strategies is contrail avoidance and the minimisation of all climate impacts during a flight. A key requirement is the precise and accurate prediction of potential climate impact. In this project, I have assessed the influence of uncertainty in forecast results on finding a climate-optimised route that does not risk accidental climate damage. While promising results have been found, much further work is needed to confirm our ability to overcome forecast-related uncertainty.
