Cameron Stites-Stevens Email and Phone Number
People are my passion, and working to uplift and support others so they may thrive motivates me to be active in my community. My undergraduate studies in Communication, Peace, Social Justice, and Sustainability have not only enhanced my understanding of the interconnection between various social and environmental issues but have equipped me to dive into a professional work environment where I can deepen my knowledge of interracial and intercultural communication. For the first three years of my college experience, I worked as a Student Ambassador for Berea College's Office of Admissions, providing informative tours to prospective college students and their families. This position nourished my communication and leadership skills and prepared me for my work in Berea College's Office of Sustainability during my senior year. I served as the Green Office Certification Coordinator to partner with offices across campus as they developed eco-conscious actions in the workplace. Sustainability and environmentalism go hand in hand with my desire to help others and is a road I ultimately will re-enter.I have acquired about six months of professional experience motivating K-12 students to engage in environmental stewardship through Environmental Education internship programs in Chincoteague Bay Field Station (Wallops Island, VA) and Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor, ME). The summer before my senior year, I collaborated with Dr. Broughton Anderson, an archeologist who performed historical research to prevent the erasure of African and African-American contributions in Kentucky. This research internship motivated me to continue doing crucial racial justice work in a diverse community. Currently, I work for the Human Resources department at my undergraduate institution serving as a Collegiate partner. I perform administrative tasks in this role and use my intercultural, interracial, and interpersonal communication skills to support Berea College staff and faculty. This opportunity has allowed me to take on projects relating to DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), data management, and electronic filing. Now, I work under Teach for America as an English teacher to help 75 students ages 13-14 in strengthening their writing and reading comprehension skills. Working in a Title I school has opened my eyes to the severity socioeconomic inequality can have on our youth and I intend to inspire as much hope so that my students can turn their academic dreams into reality.
