This Master's Group Project aims to help ZNE Capital, the world's first zero net energy real estate leasing company, identify the best locations across the United States to expand their operations into. ZNE’s business model involves acquiring existing multifamily housing complexes, installing solar panels, and decreasing utility costs to increase their net operating income while renting units at affordable rates. Our team collected real estate data, demographic trends, solar irradiance data, landlord policies, energy policy, and financial data for real estate markets across the country, and are creating a reproducible model that ranks metropolitan statistical areas based on their favorability for solar panel installation to produce maximum returns. We are also working to quantify the climate and health impacts of ZNE's work. In addition to my research contributions for our team, as communication manager, I maximize our project's reach by writing publicly digestible updates on our work, and serve as a point of contact between the research team, ZNE Capital, and external contacts.
