It is my belief that only by focusing on the full lifecycle of buildings and all their material components, can we understand how to best plan individual projects, and policies, to guide us through an uncertain future and realize a more sustainable world.After years working in multiple trades within the construction industry, I was finally able to re-focus my career on my passion for sustainability and the environment by becoming an Energy Advisor and residential home energy consultant. This was an amazing decision that provided the opportunity to learn a fantastic amount about operational energy efficiency, as well as how good design and construction management can produce some truly breathtaking projects. Becoming an Energy Advisor was not only an interesting career change, but also aligned with my ambitions and education. After finishing my Batchelor from the University of Victoria, the opportunity to pursue a MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands on a scholarship was irresistible. There I acquired a more nuanced appreciation for the fundamental threats our world faces due to climate change, as well as the deeply rooted challenges that lie at every step along the path to mitigating those threats.Because of the seriousness of those threats and the need to make as many efforts to address them as quickly as possible, I have now moved to my current position as Senior Energy Advisor at Carbon Wise. This role allows me to continue to consult on operational efficiency while also minimizing the negative impacts of embodied energy.
