The goal of this work is to connect diverse commoning efforts around the United States and advance their vision of building a new type of economy. In May of 2019, I was asked by the Mayor and City Manager of Walla Walla to create and implement a neighborhood-based program dedicated to cultivating community throughout the City. In the course of this process I have:- Led a committee of community leaders in the development of a city-wide model for neighborhood engagement, collective action, and disaster preparedness.- Presented both an initial proposal and evaluative updates to the Walla Walla City Council and other City Leadership. - Produced multiple bilingual and city-wide media campaigns composed of Op-Eds, magazine articles, radio interviews, in person presentations, and community outreach in collaboration with the City’s Communications Director.- Partnered the Washington 2020 Census, Mercy Corps Northwest, Community Development Block Grant Program, and other local initiatives/organizations to facilitate equitable outreach, host programs, encourage community engagement, and gather feedback. - Conducted both neighborhood-based and city-wide community organizing so as to bring interested neighbors together on an equitable basis, build sustainable relationships, and provide the logistical, financial, and general support needed to help neighbors address these issues together.- Led and adapted the program in response to the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak.
