President
Chief Operating Officer & Vp Of Government Affairs
My role on the leadership team is helping set and lead strategy for Code.org and supporting the organization as a whole, and as an officer of the Board of Directors. I'm also President of our Advocacy Coalition (https://advocacy.code.org/) bringing together more than 50 organizations in common cause to expand access to K-12 computer science. Day-to-day I oversee most of our external efforts to support and scale K-12 computer science, including our national regional partner network and our state and federal K-12 CS policy efforts.Worked with the CEO to build our initial scaling strategy of three interconnected elements to bring K-12 computer science to schools: 1) open source curriculum and linked professional learning for in-service teachers without background in CS, 2) policy reform to remove barriers and bolster the movement, and 3) marketing efforts to educate the public. Our results from this plan:-- more than 30 million students and 1 million teachers have tried our platform-- 86,000 teachers (and counting) prepared to teacher K-12 CS courses-- A network of 64 local partners serving their communities in expanding access to the subject-- 48 states have changed policies supporting K-12 CS policy-- Dedicated federal funding for K-12 CS through the US Department of Education -- A network of 50+ organizations advocating for K-12 CS policy
