In this role I was responsible for a providing strategic and technical leadership in championing industry best practice and pragmatic stormwater solutions in relation to large brownfield urban land development within the strategic growth areas in Auckland. I managed the relationship between Healthy Waters and Kainga Ora Homes Land and Communities, collaborating to promote water sensitive design and best practice stormwater solutions across the major housing development precincts.

I started my own consulting business so that I could explore my interests in sustainability with the goal of better aligning my work with my life’s purpose. My focus was on helping small to medium businesses to understand their environmental compliance risks and opportunities to operate more sustainably.

At Beca, a large mutlidisciplinary engineering consultancy, I enjoyed the large variety of projects I get involved in, thanks to Beca's broad range of market sectors and disciplines.I have provided advice on industrial emissions and environmental compliance issues to a broad range of industries, including the wastewater industry, where I have experience in odour assessment and management of wastewater odour emissions. I also have extensive experience in the assessment of vehicle emissions from state highway projects, through working on a number of major roading projects on behalf of the NZ Transport Agency. I am an acknowledged expert witness with experience in giving evidence at Council and Board of Inquiry hearings.

I was responsible for the environmental management of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects for oil, gas, petrochemical and pharmaceutical developments. This included the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) permit applications, including air quality assessments and air dispersion modelling; in addition to implementing the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) on projects.

I provided process engineering support to project design teams throughout the life of water and wastewater treatment projects in the UK and Scotland, from initial feasibility/tendering through to process plant commissioning. My responsibilities included preparation of P&IDs, detailed hydraulic and process design calculations, writing process control philosophies, carrying out vendor bid analysis and participation in HAZOPs.
