Camilla Brendon is a mixed media artist and activist who lives and works in London, U.K. Camilla Brendon uses bold colour and form inspired by nature to create visually appealing 2D, 3D and installation artworks which encourage viewers to explore and to ask questions. Her art provides a platform for dialogue around sustainability and facilitates debate, learning and experimentation without constraints or prejudice. Her ongoing project, Coast, creates art that visualises what exists below the glassy blue surface of the ocean and explores how we can adapt our lifestyles to improve the health of the planet. Camilla Brendon makes artworks out of found and donated materials, like washed up commercial fishing gear and single use packaging. When facilitating workshops, she brings these materials and this allows art to become accessible, by removing the need to have artist materials. Her most recent work Kelp Forest saw her create a kelp forest from 100% single use and salvaged materials. She installed the work and programmed a panel talk and a recycled art workshop to run alongside. Camilla Brendon’s current project is called Coast. She is dedicated to interdisciplinary collaborations with community groups, scientists and artists to engage a wide audience with art that visualises scientific and environmental issues therefore making them accessible. Projects within Coast include Humans Make Plastic, Tiny Ocean Plants and Kelp Forest. Humans Make Plastic was commissioned by University College London (2018) and was taken to Bow Arts, Here East and The Bloomsbury Festival. Camilla Brendon has been artist in residence at Chisenhale Studios (2019) and The University of Hertfordshire (2020), her work Humans Make Plastic and Hertford Union & Ocean were exhibited at the University of Hertfordshire’s show Plastic Matter (2020). She was an invited artist at Ocean Action conference and spoke at CommOCEAN conference (2020) She was invited artist at EurOCEAN conference (2019). Camilla Brendon’s work has been featured in Zona Imaginarias and Sustainability First’s publications and she was a shortlisted artist for Sustainability First’s Art Prize (2021).
