Substitute Teacher
Substituted for all elementary grades plus a few times in the high schools. Always reliable and professional, and had multiple teachers request that I substitute for them again. As I substitute, I am always on the lookout for new ideas and techniques to add to my toolkit as a teacher, and I learned new things with every assignment.
Substitute Teacher
Substituted for Nebo District on occasion to begin getting to know the area I was planning to start teaching in once I relocated.
Fourth Grade Teacher
• Worked collaboratively in a curriculum-share position, teaching science, writing, and social studies to all fourth-grade students• Taught virtually the last 2.5 months of the 2019-2020 school year during the onset of COVID, and successfully kept students showing up (on their laptops), engaged, and learning during that time, using a combination of TEAMS, Nearpod, email, and phone calls and coordinating with the other 4th grade teachers• Created an effective Canvas course to communicate information, share resources, and access and turn in assignments• Utilized Nearpod and Flipgrid (Flip) to make lessons more dynamic and student-centered, and created digital student portfolios in SeeSaw for parents/guardians to view their child's progress• Served on the school’s Joint Staff Study Committee, working cooperatively with other teachers, administrators, and staff to discuss issues and solve problems that involved the school as a whole
Long Term Substitute Teacher - Sixth Grade
Took over in a 6th grade class whose teacher had unexpectedly passed away. Because the two 6th grade teachers did a curriculum share between the classes, the other teacher couldn't share her own lesson plans or materials, so I used what I knew about the class already (I had substituted in there several times) and my own knowledge from teaching 6th grade previously to plan engaging language arts and social studies lessons until a new full-time teacher was hired. It was a tough time for the students, having lost their beloved teacher so suddenly, but I developed good relationships with them, and some kids continued to come visit me from the junior high when I started in a new 4th grade teaching position at the same school the following year.
Long Term Substitute Teacher - Second Grade
Substituted at the end of the school year for a second grade teacher on maternity leave. Went and observed her classroom a few times during the year, and during my time subbing, I sought to keep lessons, classroom management, and communication with families as consistent with their regular teacher as possible. Attended faculty meetings and developed good relationships with children, parents, and school faculty and staff.
Long Term Substitute Teacher - Fifth Grade
Substituted at the end of the school year for a fifth grade teacher on maternity leave. She was a new teacher in her first year in a gifted and talented class, and she warned me ahead of time that she would only have a very rough outline of what I would need to teach because she hadn't been in the position for a full year yet and didn't have detailed plans yet. I was familiar with the gifted and talented program, having a son in the class, and felt confident in taking that on. It was a great way for me to step back into the teaching world, and I enjoyed planning dynamic lessons for kids who were capable of high-level schoolwork. I also helped with the coordinating and practicing of their big end-of-year music and dance program, which was greatly appreciated by the other gifted and talented teachers.
Second Grade Teacher
• Collaborated with three other second grade teachers to plan dynamic lessons and interactive centers• Served as the school mathematics specialist, communicating information to teachers about new programs and materials and training them as needed• Supervised a student teacher (2000-2001) in cooperation with the University of Utah
6Th Grade Teacher
• Planned and taught language arts and math to home room students in addition to teaching music and health in rotation with all sixth grade classes• Served as school mathematics specialist and United Way representative
