As a Social Services Director, I was responsible for implementing a social services program that met the medically related social and emotional needs of parents while also abiding by all regulatory guidelines. This involved acting as a patient advocate to ensure that all their rights were upheld and providing education to staff on how to best care for patients. I also was responsible for coordinating care conferences between the IDT team, the patient and their family and friends to keep communication open. I was also responsible for facilitating discharges and ensuring that all patients had a safe discharge plan that included all of the required resources.

As residential services case manager, I worked with adults who had mental health and some with substance use disorders in a residential treatment facility. I interviewed potential clients who had been referred to assess their eligibility for the program and then determined if they would be accepted. I performed intakes and discharges to and from the program. I wrote individualized treatment plans for each client based on their goals. I would then review it with them at 14, 30 and 60 days. I would also be available to clients to provide them resources and assistance or to simply listen to them.

As a practicum student in IRC, I observed counselor responding to clients, both adults and children in a variety of crises. I was able to observe different ways to handle different situations and how to refer to a higher level of care or service, as needed. I was able to spend a large portion of this practicum, independently responding to clients in varying states of crisis. I have worked with clients on stabilizing them by discussing coping skills, resources and/or a safety plan, as appropriate. I also assessed clients and made appropriate referrals to outpatient services, SUD services, Transitions or Inpatient.

As a practicum student for Assessment and Referral, I observed counselors completing behavioral health evaluations for all new clients at the agency, including adults and children. I was also able to observe psychiatrists and ARNPs complete the intakes and first begin discussing medications. I became familiar with the DSM-V and was able to properly assess a client's case and give a diagnosis. I was also able to observe the referral process and gain an understanding of how to make appropriate referrals to SUD treatment, case management, therapists, psychiatrists, etc. Towards the end of the practicum, I was able to complete the evaluation independently, complete the proper documentation and make the appropriate referrals.

As a residential counselor, I worked with adults who had mental health issues in a residential treatment facility. I observed their progress and interactions with other residents. I was responsible for providing them with any help or resources that they requested as it related to developing their independent living skills. I interacted with them to ensure that they were being productive in making progress on their treatment goals. I also communicated any issues with other staff members and consulted on concerns that I had.

As an Assistant Buyer, I performed a variety of duties. My job type did not specify a certain set of responsibilities. I was very much like a floater and did anything that needed to be done. This ranged from processing purchase orders to assisting with surplus and inventory. I also took on any new projects that were initiated and completed them in a timely fashion. I also worked closely with my supervisor to constantly be thinking of ways to improve our department and make it more efficient.

As a research assistant, I was unpaid and earned class credits instead. I did a variety of things relating to research. I conducted several literature reviews, wrote a procedure for a research study, completed an application for an ethical review, collected data via an on online survey, and replied to students' reflection, among other things.

As a practicum student, I was unpaid and enrolled in a class at my undergrad institution and choose to spend my time shadowing an elementary school psychologist. I assisted with various paperwork and with the testing of students. I also sat in on team meetings about students who were in Special Education. Among other things, I observed the implementation and execution of a social skills lesson plan for students who lacked the skills.
